In the early 1960’s International Design Center opened a small store in the former Sheraton-Ritz Hotel on Marquette Ave in downtown Minneapolis, as an importing retailer of Scandinavian home furnishings. IDC soon grew to a size that required a bigger store. In the mid-1970’s, IDC moved to 100 2nd Ave North in the Minneapolis Warehouse District. The year 2000, under new ownership, brought about a move to a new location in the suburbs. IDC re-modeled two levels in a contemporary building in Richfield, near the Mall of America. Nearly ten years later, the need for expansion required a move to the vibrant retail area near France Ave in Bloomington, MN. IDC opened two showrooms, totaling 35,000 square feet, directly across the parking lot from each other to better serve their customers. In September of 2012, IDC relocated to its final home, a 75,000 square foot building at 7035 Washington Ave S in Edina, MN, with both it’s retail and warehouse facilities under one roof.
