Dougherty Dental

Dougherty Dental specializes in family and cosmetic dentistry. Our expanded services include orthodontics, TMJ/TMD treatment, endodontics (root canals), extractions, sedation, painless treatment, implant restoration, and professional whitening. Our goal is to provide well rounded service to meet all our patient’s needs.

Established in 1942.
Dr. William E. Dougherty started Dougherty Dental in downtown Portland in 1942. Dr. John Dougherty joined the dental practice in 1972 and the father-son team moved the practice to its current location on NW Davis St. The addition of Dr. Scott Dougherty in 2011 marked the third generation of Dougherty dentists. Dr. Andrew Laybourn joined the Dougherty Dental team in 2013.

Dr. John Dougherty was born and raised in the Alameda district of NE Portland. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School located in Portland, OR and Gonzaga University located in Spokane, WA, where he played basketball for the Bulldogs. Dr. Dougherty completed his graduate degree at Oregon Dental School (now OHSU).

Dr. Dougherty’s father (William) and son (Scott) are also dentists. With over forty years of experience, Dr. Dougherty has seen and done it all in the dental world. Outside of the office John is an avid card player, sports fan, and expert on nearly every subject imaginable.
