Originally from northern California, Steve’s introduction to the culinary and baking arts began at Tante Marie’s in San Francisco. From there, he worked at various restaurants and bakeries in San Francisco as well as Florida and Colorado, notably, Della Fattoria, Jardiniere and Udi’s, working under bakers who would be influential in shaping him as a baker and leader in the baking industry. With these valuable experiences, Steve was able to develop his own style and identity towards food and pastry. The accumulation of experiences led to the opening of Babettes, a traditional french boulangerie.

Steve’s baking and culinary philosophy and passion reflects the growing trend towards a healthier, down-to-earth lifestyle with a focus on traditional baking techniques as well as using local wheat and produce whenever possible. Steve’s preference is to allow time and fermentation to bring out the subtle flavors in all of his breads.
