Like the growers in the local community garden and the Amaranth plant — which originated in South America and is now considered a super-grain by many — were largely transplants to the Walnut Hill Neighborhood, we too are transplants recognizing the value of a shared community identity. We have one goal in mind: create a warm, welcoming gathering space where neighborhood folks could congregate to relax, work, and visit with one another. It’s no surprise, then, that we feel such a deep-rooted connection to our community — even our sourdough starter was born right here in the neighborhood! Along with our locally roasted organic coffees, fine tea assortment, and espresso drinks, we also offer from-scratch, artisan breads, pastries, tarts, cookies, soups, salads, quiche, and a limited sandwich menu. Stop in for a quick pick-me-up, or stay all day — no matter what, we’ll always be here to welcome you in with a smile and make you feel right at home.

Amaranth Bakery & Cafe opened in 2006 in the Walnut Hill neighborhood of Milwaukee with one goal in mind — create a gathering place where people in their community could congregate to relax, work, and visit with one another. Amaranth opened in 2006 and is run by David Boucher and his wife, Stephanie Shipley, who does all the baking. Artisan-style baked goods are their specialty, and so is hospitality. The love they have for their community shines through in every interaction they have with their patrons.
