Since 1995, Noe Valley Bakery has served as San Francisco’s Neighborhood Bakery. Producing award winning handcrafted breads and breakfast pastries, extravagant cakes and a vast array of holiday treats, they’ve revitalize an old world concept for modern times.

Opened by husband and wife team Michael and Mary Gassen, we are dedicated to the concept of the full-line neighborhood artisan bakery.

Michael Gassen learned to bake when he was 14 years old growing up across the Bay in Richmond, CA. He has followed his passion since that time working at La Seine Bakery, Acme Bread, and Il Forniao before opening NVB with his wife in 1995. Michael is passionate (some say maniacal) about quality and integrity at the bakery and in his products.
