The Great Basin Community Food Co-op was started in 2005 as a small buying club out of our kitchen. In 2006 we moved into the back of a small punk rock record store called Sound & Fury Records, about 100 sq ft. From there we have moved twice and are currently at our new home located at 240 Court St. Reno, NV 89501 in downtown Reno, NV. We are the state of Nevada’s only currently community-owned grocery store.

Amber is a sixth-generation Nevadan whose interest in social justice and building local food networks led her to co-found the Great Basin Community Food Cooperative in 2005. Since then, the co-op has made vital contributions to our community: creating markets for local farmers, expanding access to nutritious food, and generating jobs. Amber’s dedication, energy, management skills, and concern for others have been crucial to the GBCFC’s success and an inspiration to everyone involved in the co-op.
