Established in 1960.
Starting in 1947, our founder Kenneth Dethloff, began a new way of marketing the manufacture of his mattresses. Instead of making a mattress and then selling it to a retailer who then sold it to a customer, he decided to cut out the middle man and sell directly to the consumer. By doing this Ken was able to reduce the price of a mattress without reducing any quality. Over 60 years later our family business operates the same way. Our factory is located in Milwaukee and all of our mattresses and box springs are sold direct to you. In the late 80’s we expanded our business bringing Metropolitan Milwaukee their first Sofa Galleries. Galleries where you could choose the style, fabric, leather and comfort level you want and have it delivered in only 35 days. Today we continue our heritage and sell our own locally made Milwaukee Mattrresses and custom made upholstery along with a complete line of furniture for every room of your home.

Our Founder, Kenneth W. Dethloff was born and raised in Milwaukee. Graduate of Boys Tech, Kenneth earned his degree in woodworking. Late in his twenties he worked for Sealy Mattress Co. When Sealy left Milwaukee, Ken started his first mattress factory, Pewaukee Mattress. Selling his interests to his brother-in-laws, Ken started his second mattress factory, Milwaukee Mattress & Furniture in 1960. Milwaukee Mattress & Furniture, Inc. is the parent company of Ken Michaels Furniture. Today Ken’s family still owns and operates the mattress factory and furniture stores.
