Gus’s Market is for locals. We’re your neighborhood staple. After serving the San Francisco community for over 30 years, we know what folks like, and it’s pretty simple – fresh groceries, great selection, and neighborly service.

Established in 1981.
We’ve come a long way since the Vardakastanis first immigrated here in 1974. We started like anybody else – working in a few of San Francisco’s produce and grocery stores, learning what folks liked in their neighborhood. Fast forward seven years and Gus and our grandfather Dimitri had saved the money they needed to open their own store. Haight-Ashbury Produce opened in 1981 on 1615 Haight Street, and immediately became a neighborhood staple. In 2011, we achieved another dream, and expanded our Haight location to include full service meat and deli departments, as well as a cafe. Haight-Ashbury Produce finally became the full-service grocery store we always wanted to provide to the neighborhood. We’ve always thought of ourselves as more than just where you grab your eggs – we’re an extension of your kitchen, your pantry, your home. Times may change, but our markets remain consistent and stable, a place where the community comes to mingle, as well as find the best groceries.

I started working here when i was a little kid. Me and my brother Dimitri always loved coming to work with our dad and grandfather early in the morning. We learned every aspect of the business. We loved it so much that we decided to do it full time when we got old enough. We are always looking at ways to grow the business and make sure we have the products that the customers want. My favorite part of the business is talking to the customers and getting feed back from them. It helps us grow with the community and also builds trust between us and the customer.
