I was born and grew up in Communist Poland where there was nothing in stores. I remember my mom and grandmother dragging me from my bed in the middle of the night, so we could get in line in order to get toilet paper or sugar. Then, thanks to the Solidarity, Communism collapsed, and I went to university to study marketing and management. As a student I was able to get a visa to travel to the US. One day I met the owner of a chain of second hand stores who, decided to sponsor me and move me from Poland. During my seven years managing 40 employees at the J Mann store, I learned the ins and outs of the business of second hand resale. It felt good knowing that my work helped foster the community, reduce landfill, and provide unexpected gems. Later I opened my first store. Growing up in a place where I had nothing made me desire and appreciate things of beauty.
