Born from the ashes of LA’s first punk store, Brat has become a full service (including the trend starting curb-side service) boutique that caters across all ages, for him and her, for all sorts of occasions. A redhead from St. Louis who moved to Santa Monica after one particularly bad Missouri winter, Nancy opened her 1st store called NaNa in 1976 in a 125-square-foot free-standing building in the parking lot across from Santa Monica’s Ye Olde King’s Head tavern, bringing subversive street style to the beach at a time when having pink hair meant you were an outcast, not a pop star.
After 25 amazing years bringing punk culture to LA with 8 NaNa stores across both coasts and working with the most inspiring and talented staff (each have gone on to do amazing things), Nancy closed NaNa and started Brat.
Once again she’s in the store with her customers, being inspired by their tales and hopefully inspiring a few of them to be their bratty best.
