Cockpit USA aims to be a name that is synonymous with authenticity and a sense of strong American legacy. At Cockpit USA, we are a brand that is built on the firm foundations of an affinity for leather, aviation, and an all-American heritage. Cockpit USA is committed to providing the most authentic leather aviation jackets possible. We accomplished this by working closely with the USAF in order to bring back the A-2 Flight Jacket into military use in 1987. Since then we have supplied Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard units, as well as many foreign militaries. We have also been popular among civilian pilots, air show performers, military pilots, movie stars, sports stars, and even current and former U.S. Presidents. Our clothing is meant for the function and fashion conscious who are looking for high quality outerwear, which is predominantly made in the USA. We strive to produce a quality garment that can last years and be passed down generations. At Cockpit USA it is out mission to preserve the heritage of American life styles and take pride in reminiscing the classic iconic eras of American fashion.

Established in 1975.
After President and founder of Cockpit USA, Jeff Clyman landed his WWII era aircraft, he was bombarded by crowds of people wanting to know where they could get a jacket like his father’s Army Air Corps aviator jacket that he was wearing. This event inspired Jeff to create a clothing company that specialized in crafting high quality leather aviation jackets and clothing. Stemming from the Founders of Avirex LTD. Cockpit USA, was born. Avirex was the first to bring vintage and contemporary aviation and military inspired apparel back into fashion starting in the mid 1970’s. Cockpit USA has evolved from its military influence to include the classic American heritage styles that symbolizes the rugged yet stylish fashions of American Culture. Since that time there have been many imitators but there is only one original.

In 1975 Jeff Clyman founded Cockpit USA with the desire to reproduce authentic replica vintage flight clothing. Then in 1978, he perfected a process to produce “antique” sheepskin and leather in trying to recreate lost WWII tanning process formulas no longer to be found

A true, rugged adventurer at heart, Jeff has yet to stop making jackets, finding new methods to work with leather, and flying his planes at the American Airpower Museum.
