Little Italy Mercato

Certified Farmers’ Market featuring local fruits and vegetables, eggs and meat along with fish, cheese, olive oil and honey, fresh-baked bread and pastries, coffee, and other artisanal foods from sea salts to salsa. Arts and crafts at the top of the market and live music throughout.

Started in June of 2008 to address the need for fresh, local produce and groceries in the Little Italy area and surrounding downtown San Diego communities, the Mercato is hosted weekly by the Little Italy Association and operated by Catt Fields White and San Diego Markets. Celebrating 11 years of filling 6 full city blocks with local farmers and artisan food purveyors, live music and local crafters. The “foodies’ market, it attracts local residents, chefs, visitors, hotel guests and cruise ship passengers from the nearby harbor. The market stretches from Kettner to Front Street on West Date and is open every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8 am to 2 pm. A second weekly grocery-centered market for locals opened in 2018 in the same location but is just 2 blocks long, on Wednesdays from 9 am to 1:30 pm.

The Saturday Little Italy Mercato Farmers Market is OPEN from 8am – 2pm! Masks are required for all shoppers, there is an entrance and exit point for all blocks of the market. Currently, many of our farmers and vendors are back at the market, but check our website for a complete list or if you are looking for someone in particular.

Catt Fields White is the director of San Diego Markets and Farmers Market Pros and has a passion for farmers’ markets and small business. A member of the Board of Directors of the Little Italy Association and the California Alliance of Farmers Markets, she is a former restaurant owner, restaurant consultant and publisher of a restaurant trade journal. She writes about real food and food politics. Her vision is to bring the experience of the markets of Seattle, San Francisco, Paris and Venice to downtown San Diego’s Little Italy every Saturday morning.
