TV channel started broadcasting on Thanksgiving Day, 1952 when the Texas Longhorns defeated Texas A&M 12 to 3. BOND’S founder, Bob Bond, graduated from a DeVry Technical School and started in TV Service as Austin’s first trained TV technician 1954.

I founded BOND’S in April, 1954 after serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. I came to Austin to enter The University of Texas to study Electrical Engineering. I just graduated as a TV technician from Deforest Training in Chicago, IL & I arrived in May, 1953. Austin’s KTBC initial broadcast was Thanksgiving, 1952 and I worked for a TV company until September. Austin was a sleepy little city of 100,000 people. Word spread that Bond repairs TV & I was the only Bond in phone book; they would call me at home. Bond’s TV Service, with Night Calls ’til 11 P.M., was started. Today, after 60 years, BOND’S is still the major television service company in Central Texas and has expanded into Home Theater Design & Custom Installations with a Sales Department offering major brands at competitive prices.
