Established in 2014.
Executive flavorologist and lifelong Alaskan Barbara Strong has been sweetening up family members and friends’ weddings and special events for years with Parisian macarons, cupcakes, and other handcrafted desserts. James, Barbara’s brother, brought his background in the restaurant industry (and in razzing his little sister) to the Sweet Caribou mission of sharing exceptional food with Alaskans. Their sister, Alicia Beattie, brings her years of professional baking experience to the team. Executive Pastry Chef and fellow UAA alum, Sam Wagner is another vital team member. At Sweet Caribou, we use the highest quality ingredients, use natural, Alaska sized flavor, and make everything from scratch to create extraordinary desserts.James S.
Business Owner
Born and raised in Anchorage, James worked his way up from a busboy at the Moose’s Tooth to manager of the Bear Tooth in college. He left the restaurant industry and earned his Master’s in Fisheries Management. James published a book on the pollock fishery, and was working on his PhD, but the food and fun of the restaurant biz, plus the opportunity to start a business, lured him back.No Records Found
