Skalet Family Jewelers

We are a family of Jewelers, Gemologists and Craftsman. We design and make most of the pieces right here in our shop. We specialize in custom design work, restoration and repair. We are a Certified Gemologist Appraiser with the American Gem Society, and a Graduate Gemologist from GIA. Our family has been making special pieces for families like yours for four generations.

Established in 1897.
In the late 1800’s my Great Grandfather, Ben Skalet came from Russia and founded Skalet, Mfg. a jewelery company in NYC that manufactured Fine Jewelery for Jewelery stores and Deptartment Stores. In the 1940’s my Grandfather, Phil Skalet grew it into a larger business that worked with jewelers all over the country, he was also making and designing surgical tools for the military during WWII. My Father, John Skalet and his Brother Ira grew up in the workshop and finally took it over in the early 1960’s. Then in 1968 John Skalet (my father) left the original company to start his own jewelry design gallery. The original store in Tahoe City, CA opened in 1973 as Golden Treasures. We moved to Sacramento in 1976 to escape the long winters and quiet seasons. Our shop in Old Sacramento has become our heart and soul. My Brother Adam Skalet and I (Howard Skalet) continue today and strive to make the finest quality hand-crafted jewelery available.

I grew up in the family business, working here since the late 1970’s. In 1982 I studied at GIA, completing both the Graduate Gemologist course and the Jewelry Design and Manufacture course. In 1987 I completed the comprehensive program to earn the Certified Gemologist diploma from the American Gem Society. With over 36 years of experience in Jewelry Design, Appraising and Fine Gems I am here to help you choose the right pieces that become your family’s special treasures.
