After Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, local people who stayed or returned home shortly thereafter had no where to shop for any type of goods, especially fresh goods and produce, since everything was closed. A small group of dedicated citizens (volunteers) got together and decided now was the time to open the Farmers’ Market as opposed to waiting til April of 2006, which was the plan. Everyone took a desired product/item and found a vendor as close as possible to set up a booth. On October 22, 2005, the Gretna Farmers’ Market made its debut, and has since operated every Saturday, rain or shine, since, with the exception of the weekend of Gretna Heritage Festival. We are proud to say we have loyal an valued patrons, special events, wonderful vendors and so much more! It is truly a community and volunteer effort, run by people who want to have healthy options, while socializing each Saturday!

Manager
Denise started as a volunteer with the Gretna Farmers’ Market in 2012 and became the Market Coordinator in 2014. Before volunteering, she would attend the Market most Saturdays for the freshest produce and home made goods. Being health conscious, it is the best value for your money with the healthiest, freshest options. There is a corps of volunteers who have been faithfully working and helping at the Market for many years since its debut in October 2005, right after Katrina. Our aim is not to be the biggest, but to be the friendliest, community based, bringing quality goods and vendors markets to our customers and community. We already have the best patrons ever. The market is a non profit 501(c) 3 under the umbrella of the Gretna Economic Development Association. No se encontraron registros
