Established in 1985.
Three brothers set out in 1978 to establish an import-export business out of East Africa bringing high quality colored gemstones into California. As Rubies, Sapphires, Tsavorite and Tanzanite became increasingly popular, the team acquired designers and brick and mortar retail fronts. Having a base in San Diego and another retail establishment in San Luis Obispo the two stores became Serengeti Co. and Serengeti West respectfully. Kathleen Dente is the owner and president of Serengeti West Fine Jewelers. She took over sole control of the store after the untimely and tragic passing of her husband in 1996. With style and aplomb she has navigated the economic challenges with savvy choices and excellent customer service.

Throughout the growth of the company, Kathleen has worn many hats including bookkeeper, manager, saleswoman, and jewelry consumer. Her passion is excellence – and she accomplishes this by running a contemporary store that offers luxurious, classic elegance and fashion-forward styles.
