Owner Debbie Roth was happy seling jewelry at home parties when her Dad suggested opening a gift shop in 2005. A couple days of searching for the right location and brainstorming on a name and PLUM was born! Plum started out in the El Jardin Courtyard, a tiny little spot, and Debbie saw the potential of downtown Ventura’s Main Street, so she made the move out onto Main Street in 2007 with another shop and shared the rent on a prime corner location, where the business flourished. Having been at 401 East Main Street for 5 years, after Christmas of 2012, Debbie decided it was time for change so she packed up all her goodies and hopped across the street to 420 East Main Street. A perfect location, the new store is bigger and full of all the unique treasures customers have come to love. Please stop by and say Hi, cruise through the store, and maybe pick yourself up a little treat!

Debbie has lived in Ventura her whole life. She is married to Dave R and has a son, Evan. Graduating from Saint Bonaventure in 1988, she started working at The Broadway (now Macy’s), and fell in love with retail, especially merchandising and product placement. She worked off and on for the company moving up to Merchandise Manager in 1993, and after having her son, decided to leave and become a stay at home Mom. That lasted a year! She missed retail, so found herself back at work for Macy’s. After another few years there, she decided the hours were too much and left to pursue another career path that would enable her to be home more. So, she started selling jewelry at home parties and that in turn, became owning and operating Plum. Now in her seventeenth year of owning her own business, she wouldn’t trade it for the world!
