Independent Jewellers specializes in fine jewellery and watches. We carry some of the worlds most well known brands including Rolex, Omega, IWC Schaffhausen, TAG Heuer, Tudor, Gucci, Forevermark, Mikimoto, and many more!

John H. Epp founded Independent Jewellers in 1937. He was one of the first people to offer credit, something unheard of at the time. Eventually, in the 1970’s, the company was taken over by John’s two sons and son-in law: John, Ernie, and Alfred. After working together for almost 30 years, Ernie eventually bought out his brother and brother-in-law and ran Independent Jewellers for the next 15 years. In February of 2013, the company was purchased by Ernie’s two sons, Jeremy and Jonathan and is being run by them today.

I love my job. Don’t get me wrong, it has its tough days, and the stress can be quite high at times, but I am extremely fortunate to be in the position I am. Running a business is just so exciting!

There are lots of things I like to do, many of them sports related. Ultimate Frisbee and ice hockey are high on my list of favourite things to do. Travelling, Winnipeg Jets games, and running are a few others.

One of the biggest perks of my job is travelling. Every year I go to Switzerland to see some of the most beautiful (and expensive) timepieces ever created. I travel all over Canada and the U.S. with my brother/business partner, visiting trade shows and other jewellers, always looking for the next brand or product to bring to the Winnipeg market.

Speaking of Winnipeg. I love this place. Yes it has its quirks, and awful roads, and lots of mosquitos, but it is home. The city is alive, diverse, fun, and growing. I’m excited to see what is going to happen in the next decade!
