ReStore offers new and gently used items up to 90% off. Every donation to and purchase from the ReStore funds the Habitat mission to provide affordable housing for everyone in our community. Our inventory is constantly changing, so shop often and check out our Instagram page for a peek at what’s in stock. The ReStore offers some of the easiest ways to help your community. Shopping, donating items (we’ll even come pick them up), and working the register for a couple hours are all great ways to make a difference without even breaking a sweat.
New Orleans Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened in 2003 on the corner of Royal and Press Streets in the Marigny neighborhood. Like every New Orleans business in those years, operations ground to a halt during the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. As southeast Louisiana began to rebuild, ReStore became a critical source for locals to find affordable materials and architectural salvage. Business and individual donors alike provided quality doors, windows, lumber, flooring and cabinets. Word spread quickly about a place where donations could find a new home and customers could start renovations that fit their budget. ReStore moved to a new location in January 2013. A grand opening at 2900 Elysian Fields Avenue revealed an enhanced selection including new and gently used furniture, appliances, lighting, plumbing, countertops, decor and more.
Wesley G.
Manager
Wes is a man of contradictions. After graduating from Duke University, he dabbled in business development for a pair of startup companies (think: sports and craft beer) in Durham, NC, and San Francisco, CA. Then, he went to northern India to volunteer with Tibetan refugees for 6 months. See? Wholly inconsistent. In July 2012, Wes came on as Donations Manager for the New Orleans Habitat ReStore and supported its transition from Royal Street in the Marigny to the current Elysian Fields location. In October 2013, he was promoted to ReStore Director.
Wes believes everyone – small family to big business – should care enough to see that their belongings have a second life. “Why waste it when someone wants it?” is something he never actually says – because he’s never cheesy – but often hints at.
When he’s not at the ReStore, Wes is hanging out with his pit bull, Winifred, or somewhere drinking coffee, trying without success to relax.
