Sugarpill

SugarPill is an apothecary of herbal medicines, a culinary specialty shop and an eclectic mercantile of ever-changing treasures. Proprietor Karyn Schwartz started out as a chef and then found herself drawn towards natural healing, training in both herbal and homeopathic medicine. She has provided holistic educational services and care in Seattle since 1991, and now offers her years of collected knowledge at SugarPill. You can also find dozens of gourmet salts, house-made spices and herbal tea blends, cocktail bitters, hard to find chocolates, and only our favorite specialty items for your pantry. SugarPill also features natural soaps, lotions, perfumes and organic essential oils, as well as medicinal salves and balms. Local producers are always featured, be it hand made letterpress stationary, seasonal preserves, salted caramel or raw honey. We love our job, and we sell only what we love.

SugarPill opened in February, 2011, with the support of over a hundred CSA subscribers. In the manner of Community Supported Agriculture, a micro-financing model which has supported many of the small farmers with whom Proprietor Karyn Schwartz has worked with since the early 1990’s, SugarPill began as a Community Supported Apothecary. Loyal clients, colleagues and customers, friends and family offered their time, energy and resources to help open SugarPill, knowing that it would be a valuable resource to the community. In return, subscribers receive benefits from the business, and all supporters of the shop have the opportunity to consult with Karyn and her talented staff. In a time when most retail commerce takes place on line or in big chain stores, the presence of small, independent businesses becomes ever more important to the integrity of the neighborhood in which they exist. SugarPill is one of those tiny treasures that makes a neighborhood special.
