In 1957 Bruce Blackman established Blackman Ltd to service the marine industry in and around Newport bay, specializing early in sales and service of marine chronometers, high grade watches like Rolex, Patek Philippe, compasses, barometers, sextants and other marine instruments. He quickly developed a reputation for expert repairs and service. By 1959 he had grown the business, moved into a state of the art salon and branched out into the sale of precious French and Italian jewelry, Danish and Swedish modern silver and giftware, French and Scandinavian crystal. In 1973, he brought a 1880’s vintage mighty street clock out of retirement from a Seattle junk yard restoring it to become a local landmark for Lido Village. That clock now rests at the corner of Via Lido and Via Oporto marking the gateway to Lido Shopping. In 2014 his son David moved the business forward in to a fabulous new location where they continue to be the favored jeweler of Newport Beach’s bay front community.

David, who has been managing the business for the last 8 years, brings over 20 years of jewelry industry experience to his new role as President and Owner. A 1986 graduate of Newport Harbor High School, 1990 graduate of The United Stated Naval Academy, a BS in Naval Architecture and certificate of Gemology from the Gemological Institute of America, David served his country as a Navy SEAL before marrying and returning to civilian life in Newport Beach where he spent 10 years managing Irvine based JFA Designs, a fine jewelry design and manufacturing company with world-wide distribution . According to Blackman, “Newport Beach will always be home, and our transition and move ensures we will continue providing the community with a trusted source for all jewelry, watch and fine gift needs.” Besides being a jeweler, Blackman is a life-long sailor and actively participates in the international sailing community. Most recently he has been a member of the umpire team during the Americas Cup.
