MANCINI’S® team of 48 Pittsburghers bake more than 10,000 loaves a day, using old-world techniques that James MANCINI practiced back in 1926. James Mancini, an Italian immigrant, apprenticed himself to a baker at the age of 14, and soon developed his own recipe. In time, he rented a space and began baking 100 loaves a night, then delivered the fresh bread to his customers in the morning. The “twist” bread was his trademark, and remains a favorite today. After WWII, Jim’s brother Ernie joined him until Jim’s retirement. Ernie’s son, Frankie, came to the company in 1971 but sadly died in 1977, leaving his sister, Mary Mancini Hartner to take over the bakery. In keeping with the family tradition, Mary’s son Nick Mancini Hartner, opened the Mancini’s Bread Co. retail location in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. We still bake 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at our original bakery in McKees Rocks, you can also visit us at our retail bakery in the Strip District.No Records Found
