I clearly remember selling my first ring, sitting on the sidewalk outside of Old Taylors on 13th St. in Eugene, OR. It sold for $4. I think I probably used a buck fifty of it to buy myself a celebratory beer and used the rest to buy more silver. That would have been sometime in 1975 and I have been designing and manufacturing custom gold, silver and platinum jewelry ever since. Early on I found the Portland Saturday Market to be a viable venue for my burgeoning business and while still living in Eugene, I commuted most weekends for over 8 years, eventually gaining a position on the board of directors of that market. I also ventured out to national level art and craft shows gaining wider recognition while continuing to develop my local clientele by opening a brick & mortar store in downtown Eugene which I sold in 2010 to more closely focus my time. I continue to work with people to create meaningful, heirloom quality custom jewelry through my internationally acclaimed website!

I’m the owner of Gary Dawson Jewelry Design, an online custom design operation that was featured as a “Best of the Best” by Instore Magazine. I have over 40 years’ experience in creating designs that capture the personalities and stories of my customers.

I am also a frequently published author for MJSA Journal, a prominent US jewelry industry publication and currently write a Tech column for Jewellery Business, a Canadian publication. In addition, I have delivered seminars and presentations at numerous events, including AGTA GemFair, Portland Jewelry Symposium, and the Santa Fe Symposium on Jewelry Manufacturing Technology and am proud to be a founding member of MJSA’s Custom Jewelry Council.
